Public Information Office

The FMPD Public Information Office manages the release of public messages and press releases along with handling public relations, public service announcements, newsletters and social media. The Public Information Officer (PIO) is on call to the department 24/7 and coordinates all inquiries from the media, serves as the agency’s spokesperson and arranges interviews between the media and members of the department.


J. Mitchell (Mitch) Haley is the Public Information Officer for the department and brings a background of broadcasting, advertising, reporting and media management to the position. Haley is a former medical reporter, the first Production and Operations manager for WFTX-TV (FOX), Promotions and Marketing manager for WTVK-TV (WB) and Associate General Manager of WGCU-TV/FM (PBS/NPR). In addition, he has run two local advertising agencies, served as President of the Advertising Federation of Southwest Florida and is a former volunteer board member and producer of local Crimestoppers re-enactment video episodes for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
