Dukes Captured

(Fort Myers, FL) While on patrol in downtown Fort Myers at approximately 12:30 a.m. officers came upon a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot with two black males apparently involved in drug activity. Upon questioning the driver, Michael Earl Dukes Jr. (Date of Birth December 12, 1987), he fled on foot with a loaded firearm. While attempting to escape Dukes dropped a fully loaded magazine cartridge which was recovered by the pursing officer. A K9 team joined the pursuit and tracked the suspect who was chased down and apprehended in an alleyway. A second firearm was also located and confiscated from inside of the vehicle. Upon further investigation it was discovered that one of the firearms had been reported stolen by the Cape Coral Police Department. Dukes, a convicted felon, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon by a felon, resisting arrest, drug possession and possession of a bulletproof vest. Dukes was transported to the Lee County Jail for booking and processing. Observant Fort Myers Police Officers with K-9 assistance took guns off the streets and conducted a successful drug arrest.
